LTM Deploys MIT AI Curriculum to 87,000 Staff in Enterprise Upskilling Push
Indian IT services giant partners with upGrad to deliver MIT Open Learning's Universal AI program across tech and non-tech roles, signaling industry-wide race to institutionalize foundational AI literacy.

LTM, the Larsen & Toubro Group technology services subsidiary, announced it will roll out Massachusetts Institute of Technology Open Learning's Universal AI program to its global workforce of more than 87,000 employees across 40 countries. The initiative, delivered in partnership with upGrad Enterprise, represents one of the largest enterprise-scale AI education deployments disclosed to date and underscores mounting pressure on IT services firms to demonstrate AI fluency as clients shift spending toward automation.
The self-paced curriculum comprises 16 foundational modules covering how AI systems function, the technologies underpinning them, and ethical considerations surrounding deployment. Designed by MIT Open Learning faculty, the program requires no coding background and targets both technical and business functions. Upon completion, employees receive credentials from MIT Open Learning certifying their AI readiness.
"With AI advancing rapidly, the importance of human intervention in AI solutions is crucial for effective functioning and optimised outcomes. Strategic workforce upskilling is essential to building impactful AI-led solutions," said Gururaj Deshpande, Chief Delivery Officer at LTM. "Deploying this cutting-edge MIT Open Learning program through our upGrad partnership will strengthen our AI expertise that will define the next era of innovation."
The move comes as IT services providers face dual pressure: clients demanding AI-native solutions and internal workforce anxiety over automation-driven displacement. LTM frames the program as building "organizational AI muscle at scale" and equipping staff with "first-principles reasoning skills" to make logic-driven decisions that drive client growth in an AI-driven economy.
(LTM, formerly LTIMindtree, positions itself as an "AI-centric global technology services company" and the "Business Creativity partner" to large enterprises. The firm operates integrated operations, transformation, and business AI capabilities and maintains a global partner network.)
The enterprise upskilling wave reflects a broader strategic calculus in the IT services sector. As generative AI commoditizes routine coding and support tasks, incumbents are racing to reposition workforces around higher-order problem-solving, domain expertise, and AI oversight roles. Competitors including Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Wipro have announced similar reskilling initiatives in recent quarters, though few have disclosed partnerships with institutions of MIT's caliber or programs spanning tens of thousands of employees simultaneously.
upGrad Enterprise, the B2B arm of Indian edtech firm upGrad, serves as the deployment partner facilitating module delivery and credentialing infrastructure. The collaboration gives LTM access to MIT-tier content while allowing the education provider to scale reach without building enterprise distribution capabilities in-house.
